The Event and Engagement Manager plans, manages, promotes, and oversees programs for diverse audiences to support the interpretive story and financial stability of Locust Grove. The Event and Engagement Manager works under the supervision of the Executive Director of Locust Grove and works on a team with other staff, volunteers, and the Locust Grove Board of Directors in discharging his/her responsibilities. All are responsible for preserving Locust Grove as a public trust.
All staff members are cross-trained in all aspects of the daily operations of the site, including giving tours, using the POS system, and site security, and all staff may be called upon from time to time to perform tasks that are outside of the specific position job description when site needs require it. Staff members are responsible for effective stewardship of the Locust Grove mission and “brand” through all their activities.
This position will require weekend and evening work; hours are flexible and compensatory time is offered, by arrangement with the Executive Director.
- Bachelor’s degree required, History, Museum Studies, Marketing, or Communications preferred
- Must possess current computer and business skills
- Must show previous responsibility for managing and marketing events
- Must have valid drivers’ license and means of transportation
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
The Event and Engagement Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the program and marketing initiatives of Locust Grove, including improving visitor engagement so that visitors will learn more and get more from their visits; and will promote HLG’s mission and message to local, regional, national, and international audiences.
Salary Range: $37,000-$40,000 to start with periodic review. Health insurance, vacation and sick leave, SimpleIRA, and other benefits provided. Probationary period of 90 days; benefits begin after probationary period. Proof of COVID vaccination required. Subject to terms & conditions in HLG Employee Handbook.

Actor — Museum Theatre Program
Historic Locust Grove is seeking non-union African-American actors to join our newly established Museum Theatre Program. Performers will be featured in programming that emphasizes the stories of the enslaved that once inhabited our site. Programming includes: Guided tours, voice-over performances for audio tours, exploration of African-American’s historical relationship with Shakespeare, and much more. Artists are paid $20/hour for rehearsals and $25/hour for performances. We encourage African-American artists of all sexual orientations, gender identities and people with disabilities to audition.
