Indigenous Peoples’ Day at Locust Grove
Monday, October 12, 2026
1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
FREE

Join Historic Locust Grove as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day on the homelands of Shawnee Tribal Nations.  The day begins with several Indigenous artisans, makers, and vendors with specialties for sale, along with food & drink from Lauri Lake’s Navajo Taco Food Truck available for purchase.

The highlight of the program begins at 2:00 pm with a special livestream webinar, Beyond Acknowledgement and Into Repair, featuring Chief Glenna Wallace of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe and Chief Ben Barnes of the Shawnee Tribe. This historic conversation marks the first time since removal that both Shawnee Chiefs will publicly address the people living within their ancestral homelands.

As the final home of George Rogers Clark, whose campaigns against Shawnee towns helped force them from this region, Locust Grove feels a deep responsibility to create space for this conversation through a community watch party. Following the livestream, attendees can join a facilitated reflection with Locust Grove’s Director of Engagement, Elizabeth Colón Nelson.

At 5:00 pm, the afternoon concludes with a guided forest walk with Louisville Metro Parks arborist Patton Scott, exploring our natural landscape and its connection to Indigenous stewardship.
