When Lafayette shed his blood during the Battle of Brandywine on September 11, 1777, Lafayette began his ascent as an American Hero. Bruce Mowday will talk about Lafayette’s departure from France as a 19-year-old untried general, his relationship with George Washington and support of American freedom and his return in 1824 and 1825 as America’s guest.
This installment of the Afternoon Lecture Series will feature speaker Bruce Mowday.
Bruce E. Mowday is an award-winning author and journalist with over 25 books spanning history, sports, business, and true crime. He has appeared on numerous media platforms, including PBS, Discovery ID, C-SPAN, and local networks. A sought-after speaker, Mowday has presented at civic and historical events, including the Revolution 250 podcast of the Massachusetts Historical Society and the Authors of the American Revolution Congress, where he was featured twice. The Congress of Civil War Round Tables has honored him as a “5-Star” speaker.
A former chairman of the Chester County Historical Society and president of the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates, Mowday has also served on boards such as the Valley Forge Park Alliance. He is currently the Chester County Coordinator for the Lafayette Bicentennial Celebration (2024–2025) and a member of the county’s committee for the nation’s 250th anniversary.
