“Of Stature”: The Commissions and Career of Artist Ed Hamilton

Join Locust Grove in welcoming Ed Hamilton, renowned sculptor, and Sarah Battle, archive collections consultant of Ed Hamilton Studios and Visitor Center, for a conversation spanning the five decades of his career as an artist.

In 2002, the city of Louisville commissioned sculptor and Louisvillian Ed Hamilton to create a memorial dedicated to York, the enslaved man instrumental to the success of the Lewis & Clark expedition. Using Locust Grove’s maquette of York as well as Mr. Hamilton’s archival collection as points of departure, this program celebrates this public work within the larger conversation of Hamilton’s artistic career. 

This lecture is presented as part of our Afternoon Lecture Series, on the first Wednesday of each month, and takes place on Wednesday, October 7. Doors open at 12:30 PM for drinks and refreshments, and the lecture will begin at 1 PM.

Tickets are $8 for Locust Grove members and $10 for non-members.
