Humphrey

Humphrey was an enslaved man who was inherited by Ann Croghan Jesup following the division of her father William Croghan’s estate.

While William Croghan died in 1822, the division of the enslaved did not take place until 1829. In the intervening years, Humphrey continued to live and work at Locust Grove when it was under the ownership of William Croghan’s son-in-law, George Hancock.
