Locust Grove's First Person Interpreters recreate an 1816 family holiday party in the historic home that will include music and dancing. Stop into the hearth kitchen to see preparations for a festive meal. In the Visitors' Center, historic artisans will demonstrate their trades, give hands-on experiences, and sell their wares for a unique holiday shopping experience. Children's activities will also be offered. Includes a sale of select books from Locust Grove's famous book sale - perfect for gift giving. Refreshments available. Admission: $6 adults, $3 children, free under 6.

Book Launch with Gwynne Potts

Celebrate the release of George Rogers Clark and William Croghan: A Story of the Revolution, Settlement, and Early Life at Locust Grove with the book’s author, Gwynne Tuell Potts.  Gwynne will talk about the book, her research, and the new insights that her work gives us into the intertwined lives of these two men before and during their time at Locust Grove. Lavish refreshments will be served, books available for purchase and signing. The cost to attend is a donation in the amount of your choice to the Gwynne Tuell Potts Research Fund at Locust Grove – the research that makes all that we do possible! Donation payable at the event. Andrea Meriwether | Black & Barreled: African-American contributions in Early Distilling
Bourbon Historian and Consultant Andrea Meriwether talks about her groundbreaking research and insights into the involvement of enslaved and free blacks in the expansion of farm distilling into an industry in early Kentucky. Ms. Meriwether calls bourbon “a conduit” into understanding of Kentucky’s economy, culture, and race relations, and into the lives of skilled black creators of a beloved American product. Learn more about this topic and how it relates to upcoming programs at Locust Grove’s farm distillery. Weather permitting, we’ll follow the lecture with a quick visit to see the distillery building. (Weather not permitting, a schedule of when you can observe the distillery in full operation will be provided). The Locust Grove Afternoon Lecture Series is held the first Wednesday of each month. The Woods so Wild is a duo based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and features Kenneth Kusiak virginal and William Bauer renaissance violin. They focus on music from Shakespeare's time. "Will Yow Walke the Woods soe Wylde" is a piece of virginal music from the Tudor era, popularly believed to have been a favorite of Henry VIII.
